Big G Launches Google Domains Business

Just a week or so after the announcement that Google would move under the umbrella of “Alphabet,” I received an invitation-style promotion in my mailbox about “Google Domains.”

Watch as I open the announcement:

The promotion announces “what you’ll get when you switch to Google Domains.” Then it goes on to list 3 benefits of what they deem most desireable in a registrar.

3 Top Benefits of Registering with Google

1) private registration, included at no additional cost

Well, after all, Google knows a LOT about us already!

2) Seamless integration with Weebly, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix and Blogger

3) Secure and reliable hosting with easy-to-reach chat, phone, and email support

And it all starts from $12 per year.

This is the page I was directed to:

“We have partnered with Key-Systems GmbH to offer many more TLDs which we resell from them. This does not affect the cost and Google Domains is still your point of contact for registration services, help, and support. However, Key-Systems GmbH may be listed in your WHOIS data as the registrar of record for some domains.”

Your Options for TLDs

Google Domains can be your registrar of record if your domain registration is under one of these TLDs:

One thing is certain, the Google Domains Help Center is a great place to find everything you always wanted to know about domains but were afraid to ask!

Sure, I’ll be buying my next domain from Google. I’ll be interested to see if it gets any more attention than my non-G domains. I may even transfer a domain to see what that experience is like.

If you’ve purchased a Google Domain, be sure to comment below and let us know how it went for you!

Note: I’ve learned since posting this, Google has been offering this service for over a year already.

Having been on the tech side of the business for a number of years, I cannot see how Google Domains can be any better for then one you but off of XYZ Domains, but it sure can’t hurt (especially if the price is right). The only real problem I have with this is a big company is getting bigger…..not good from my perspective. But hey, if it helps you make money, why not? Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Hey, Eric, I agree that it sure can’t hurt to have your domain through Google! They probably won’t ask you to jump through all the hoops to verify ownership! Thank you for your comment. This is the very thing I love to find to report on!

Hey Barbara! Thanks for keeping us updated on the latest and the greatest! I do like the idea that “private” registration is included at no cost. I will give it a try and compare it to GoDaddy. I joined a discount club with GoDaddy so I get reduced pricing but I think it may be a better deal with Google with the private registration being included. Will keep you posted!

Very interesting move by Google to offer Domains Registrar services. As you mentioned, I’d like to see if Google Domains get preferential rankings, after all…. Google does for Google even though they claim to be ‘customer needs’ based.

Yeah, Duane, and since I posted this, I’ve learned that the service has been around at least a year! But as with all things Google, they don’t advertise it much. Will be interesting to see if their promotion builds more interest. (I know it did from me!)

Hey, Cory, not sure exactly when they launched this “beta” program, but, as with most things Google, they’ve not really advertised it well. You bet, I will share more about this as I learn more!

I had heard about this, didn’t see the advantage, but I was not sure about the hosting. I haven’t checked my mail in over two weeks, but I guess I will go check it.

I try to stay on top of these things, and I have domains from many domain registries, and this one can not hurt. I do wonder though, since my thought was a migration from two different hosting companies to just one, if there hosting will be better. I wonder if they would offer different ip classes, but not sure.

I will have to catch up on these things…Thanks for the information 🙂

You’re welcome, Carlos. Yes, it will be interesting to see what their hosting package is like. It’s likely we won’t have to verify site ownership, as they’ll already have that information!

    Hi Barbara,

Great job on the video and live action, it kept me glued until the end (nice strategy). The article was great also. I too may even try my next domain or switch one over…Just to see if it helps my rankings in any kind of way. You know like they say, use anything Google because it all links to each other. Keep up the great work!

Hey, Art, thanks so much for your comment! I hope to incorporate more “live action,” LOL! Yeah, I’m really eager to get to my next domain purchase to try out the new service.

  7. Keiran says:

Hi Barbara, thanks for posting on this, I hadn’t heard about Google Domains until just now. I used the link you shared and whizzed over to the website, only to find that the service isn’t available in the UK yet. Oh well, I suppose I’ll just have to wait!

  8. Shaneman says:

    Hi Barbara,

Wow, Google Domains have been around for over a year and I did not even know it existed.

I am in Australia and can not remember receiving anything in the mail myself about this – maybe they may send something to me soon.

Google Domains is definitely something that I will keep in the back of mind.

Thanks for making me aware of this 🙂

You taught me something new today 🙂
